Description
In the context of transient migrant populations, this paper investigates the complexities involved in creating ad hoc digital health services that comply with all the major aspects of digital well being. The migrant communities are often mired in unique socio-economic and legal predicaments, accentuated in off-grid environments marked by statelessness and identity crises. Our research, encompassing a comprehensive survey across 35 countries with 1000 participants from each, delves deeply into the digital health needs and service landscapes that prevail in these settings. Though our primary focus of the study was not a migrant, the data we have will give insights for a standard setting for all the major wellbeing considerations. We looked into what other digital service factors needs to be considered to design an equal high quality healthcare service with other bell being considerations that can go beyond boundary.
Key to our analysis is the recognition of the inherent technical complexities in designing digital health services without disrupting existing systems. Migrants frequently grapple with issues such as irregular legal status, language barriers, financial constraints, and insufficient healthcare policies, complicating the management of their physical, mental, and social well-being. The transition towards digital health services in stateless communities, while promising, is fraught with these underlying complexities. Our study focuses on diverse digital healthcare indicators, crucial for developing new services tailored to the unique challenges that can be mapped on the stateless community. It also emphasizes the need for integrated solutions that consider the local context of these communities.
The paper also presents a critical evaluation of the current global landscape of digital services, based on survey findings that reflect end-user experiences and perceptions. We can take this as a consideration to propose guidelines / framework for the creation of ad hoc healthcare services, specifically designed to meet the needs of migrant communities. Our goal is to enable the development of sustainable best practices, effective digital health solutions that not only integrate with existing digital services but also cater to the diverse needs of migrants.
This research highlights the imperative for collaborative and innovative approaches in enhancing the health and well-being of these vulnerable groups. While offering insights into various digital services and end-user experiences, the paper primarily focuses on identifying key considerations for designing new, sustainable platforms equipped with robust monitoring mechanisms for displaced communities.
