Description

Introduction – Objectives: Hospital infections are one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity and represent a challenge to public health with an impact on health and the environment. Infection control measures include identifying patients at risk of hospital-acquired infections, observing hand hygiene, following standard precautions to reduce transmission, and implementing strategies to reduce infections by healthcare personnel. The main objective is to evaluate the knowledge and practices of control and prevention of hospital infections among health personnel (doctors and nurses).
Methodology: The project will be split into two stages. The first part will be a qualitative and quantitative cross-sectional study. The general population will be hospital health staff (doctors and nurses) working in Albania's southern region. Data will be collected using standardized questionnaires about hospital infection control and resistance to medications. The second phase of the project will be a semi-experimental study that will include the implementation of the evidence generated in the first phase as well as a review of the literature through the organization of educational and training sessions for health personnel as part of the study to increase compatibility for the implementation of measures for the prevention and control of hospital infections. Participants who declare their willingness to participate after being briefed about the study's aim and objectives will be able to complete the questionnaire.
Results and Discussions: The creation of a protocol for the control of nosocomial infections by health professionals in the workplace based on updated scientific evidence also refers to the implications of the pandemic. Creation of a teaching module on infection control that can become part of the curricula of health care study programs offered by universities for health professionals.
Conclusions: Design accurate strategies based on scientific evidence to increase compliance with measures taken by health personnel for the control of hospital infections and antibiotic resistance, with an impact on population health and the environment.
