Description
A comparative study aimed to detect psychological symptoms "anxiety,
depression, and stress" among a group of addicts who received therapeutic interventions in AL-AMAL center (in Gaza, Palestine) for treatment of addiction and another group of addicts who did not receive any therapeutic interventions in the Gaza Strip, the sample size was 60 addicts from male aged between 16-19 years, divided into two groups, each group consisted of 30 addicts, and they were selected by a simple random sample, and there was homogeneity between the two groups in demographic data in ages, housing, education, type of substance,
substance source, and the number of years of addiction. The anxiety,
depression, and stress scale "DASS-21 scale" was used, prepared by Lovibond, SH & Lovibond, PF (1995), localized by language arbitrators by Moussa, MT, Lovibond, PF & Laube, R. (2001). The results of the study were: The percentage of participants in the non-intervention group who have very severe depression (70%), and with acute anxiety equal (46.7%), and with severe stress equal (33.3%). The percentage of participants in the therapeutic intervention group who have severe depression equals (3.3%), with acute anxiety equal (3.3%), and with very severe stress equals (6.7%), there was a noticeable decrease in the degree of " anxiety, depression, and stress "among the intervention group
compared to the non-intervention group. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance less than 0.05 on the scale of anxiety, depression, and stress between the therapeutic intervention group and the non-intervention group in favor of the intervention group and this indicates to the effectiveness of therapeutic intervention in reducing psychological symptoms.
