Description
Background:
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is responsible for >6 million deaths worldwide. Many nations, including India, have authorized COVID-19 vaccines for different age groups to prevent this disease. However, recent evidence indicates that many individuals are unwilling to receive vaccinations due to misinformation, misbelief, and low health literacy. This research aimed to understand the opinion of the adult population in India on COVID-19 vaccinations and their readiness to be vaccinated.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2021 and January 2022. Data were collected online using a self-administered and semi-structured questionnaire among adults >18 years or more in India via web-based links.
Results:
Out of 390 enrolled participants, only 212 had completed the survey and represented 22 states of India. The participants' mean (SD) age was 40.39 (8.45) years, and the majority were male. More participants (191[90.1%]) showed a positive response that safe and efficacious vaccines could be produced. Most participants were willing to get vaccinated (97.16%). However, only 40.1% of participants agreed to pay the fee for COVID-19 vaccines. There was nearly an equal acceptance for the vaccination of children among the participants.
Conclusion:
This study revealed that the majority of the adults has a positive perception of COVID-19 vaccines. However, a better COVID-19 vaccine awareness program would be needed to target low vaccine literacy population.
