Description
Malaria Self care
- Introduction - objective
1.1 Fact
247 million cases of malaria are estimated in 2021 while in 2001, 248 million cases were estimated.
Although many efforts have been made to control malaria, current malaria trends do not match our efforts to control it.
1.2 Analysis
Is there an endorsement of the malaria strategic plan at the user (patient) level? Is the current anti-malaria health service model adapted to the population's constraints? : for the majority of the population, the anti-malaria health service is (too) expensive, (too) long (distance and waiting time) and for remote areas lacking qualified human resources. .
1.3 Solutions
Our first malaria project will use the proven community malaria health model (bottom-up approach) to a new level: the mother will become her family's community health worker and self-care technology will be developed to ensure the quality of treatment & technical support.
- Methodology
Pilot project: June 2024, pilot project in Sahel (Niger & or Mali) with mother approach and development of self-care technology planned over 3 years.
Outcome data will be collected around:
a.Malaria control in community.
b.Quality of live.
c.Efficiency cost.
- Result expected and Discussions
3.1 Sustainable community malaria control within 3 years with the following impact:
a.Quality of live: children with uncomplicated malaria will not have to wait weeks to be seen and can be diagnosed and treat immediately by the mother (less 1 hour from the 1st onset of fever).
b.Malaria control: access to knowledge and treatment at community level will ensure malaria control in the community within 3 years
c.Value for money with an effective cost/patient: 80-90% lower with Self Care Tech
3.2 Scalable
1 millions cases treated; >2.500 lives saved and > 12 millions $ saved
10 millions cases treated; >25.000 lives saved and > 124 million $ saved
100 millions cases treated; >250.000 lives saved and > 1.24 billion $ saved 250 millions cases treated; >600.000 lives saved and > 3 billion $ saved
